EVOLUTION OF THE
CHEER-LEADING UNIFORM

As many of you know, I was a cheerleader for many years of my life. Cheer is the one big thing I gave up to pursue my fashion dreams.  So every year I go to a few cheer comps in the area just to get a dose of the atmosphere.  Today I went to the largest competition in the DC area, Battle at the capitol.

This competition is held at the Gaylord convention center hosting over 5,000 cheerleaders and dancers.  With about 15,000 cheer moms, cheer dads, and spectators like me. (who by the way paid $20 dollars to get in smh)

Being a fashion designer I paid a lot of attention to the uniforms and thought to myself how far this sport has come from when it first started.

Cheer started as an all male sport but then turned into a popularity thing with the females but that was okay because the men loved it.

over the years the hemlines kept getting shorter and the uniforms tighter and then............................

the creation of the

CROP TOP UNIFORMS!

I love the look of these uniforms for the more advanced teams. I do have to say it does not look so good on every cheerleader. If you have small girls to throw you might need bigger girls to throw her.

The biggest trend in cheer right now are the booty shorts.

I do have to say I was a huge fan of this but after seeing how many girls picked their wedgies on stage during the routine in front of 10,000 people and the judges, I lost interest. Awesome but not practical.

MY FAVORITE NEW UNIFORM TREND

Swarovski crystals

OMG! Can this uniform be any more amazing???
the Swarovski elements GK used on their uniforms are amazing!  As I sat watching the competition today, I fell in love with the stoned uniforms.  Working in the ballroom world for the last 3 years I know a real crystal when I see one shine on the floor.
 I SO APPROVE!!!!!!!!! OMG AMAZING!

So yeah, I said goodbye to cheer 2 years ago but it will always be in my heart. You never know, one day I will be a cheer uniform designer? hahaha maybe by then the uniforms keep getting skimpier so I can use less fabric and charge the same? who knows. Hah!

That is all
